Mattheus Hendrik Wessels was born in Queensland, Australia on 12th November 1985 and grew up on the stunning east coast of South Africa with his family in Port Elizabeth.
As the son of the legendry former Australian and South African player, none other than Kepler Wessels, Riki's career path was obvious from the outset and at the age of 18 he made the bold decision to leave his family behind in pursuit of his own International cricket career in the UK.
In 2004 Riki proudly became a squad member at Northants County Cricket Club, where he has remained ever since and firmly established himself as a first class player.
An extremely talented batsman and wicketkeeper, he scored his maiden first-class century for Northants in 2005 at the age of 19 against Somerset.
A keen all-round sportsman, Riki likes to challenge himself outside the cricket season to maintain his alertness and fitness levels. He plays professional field hockey for Northampton Lions and also enjoys a few rounds in the boxing ring!
